The Pratichi Trust, in collaboration with Child Rights and You (CRY) India, worked on a project entitled ‘Public Participation in Education.’ One of the aims of the project was to build among teachers the capacity for communication and free exchange of ideas among themselves. In a series of workshops, organised at the district level, teachers recorded in writing their experiences pertaining to teaching, curricula and the overall processes of day-to-day running of schools. This report – a compilation of the teachers’ own narratives highlighting issues of primary schooling that need to be addressed urgently – has provided the public with not only a trove of valuable, first-hand accounts of the teachers’ efforts, practices, challenges and innovations but also an excellent tool for analyzing their ideologies, motivations, and capabilities.
