This study was carried out with support from the Department of Health & Family Welfare, NRHM, Government of West Bengal. The prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) being rather high in this state, the researchers worked on symptomatic assessments of such diseases that afflicted people the most, the profiles of these diseases, the general lack of awareness about chronic NCDs and reasonable actions to avoid them, the connection of these diseases with people’s socio-economic conditions, gender, ethnicity, etc., and the factors behind different kind of health-seeking behaviours of different people.
